CODE OF CONDUCT

OUR CODE OF CONDUCT

We welcome and host both volunteers and staff from all over the world. You will be exposed to different cultures, social etiquette and personalities. It is critical that regardless of who you meet or where you come from that you respect each individual, as well as their personal belongings. The organization adheres to a zero tolerance policy around harassment (sexual or otherwise), violence and theft. Please read our Code of Conduct before applying to volunteer. The Code of Conduct contains information on our policies around consensual relationships, alcohol consumption and much more. All Hands and Hearts reserves the right to ask anyone who does not adhere to any element of our Code of Conduct, to leave the program.

base rules

The devastation in South East Turkiye is a humanitarian crisis, with IDPs ( Internal Displaced Persons )living in shelters for a long time to come. The beneficiaries we’re working with are extremely vulnerable, therefore it is critical that our volunteers and staff behave appropriately at all times whilst representing All Hands and Hearts. This includes times working on site, and relaxing during downtime.

The communities,  fellow Turkish NGOs and  AFAD ( Turkish disaster response coordination unit) have been doing an amazing job with facilitating shelter and sanitation opportunities, assistance, NFIs ( Non Food Items ) and meals. Still, there is a real danger of humanitarian fatigue and we do not want to become part of the problem as this may have a knock-on effect on attitudes to IDPs within the local community.

Due to the cultural context and the area in which we are staying the consumption of alcohol is NOT ALLOWED on days preceding a work day on this program. The consumption of alcohol on allowed days must be done responsibly.

According to our Code of Conduct, our position on substance abuse is simple: It is incompatible with the health and safety of our staff and volunteers, and we don’t allow it. The term ‘substance abuse’ is used to include all drugs and substances, legal or illegal, which adversely affect behavior. Responsible consumption of alcohol is not banned at our programs, but you must use good judgment and never drink in a way that leads to impaired performance or inappropriate behavior, endangers the safety of others, or violates the law. Intoxication that has a visible effect on an individual, for example, affects their ability to walk or talk, is not acceptable while representing All Hands and Hearts. Illegal and recreational drugs on our programs or at any All Hands and Hearts event are strictly prohibited.
