Welcome Ms. Kai Dwyer, new Wood principal

As you know, Mrs. Harris announced her retirement earlier this year. We will miss her enthusiastic leadership, and we wish her a joyful and happy journey as she moves on. On Tuesday, June 1, the Alameda School Board approved our new principal.

We welcome back former Wood counselor and current Alameda High School Dean, Kai Dwyer. Ms. Dwyer will take charge as Wood's new principal starting the 2021-22 school year. She will work with Mr. Peterson to lead the staff and students as we return to campus and move forward.

Congratulations to retirees: Mrs. Harris, Mr. Reis, and Ms. Brown. Welcome, Ms. Dwyer!

Why Beavers Run - Short Q&A

Interviewer: Jonathan

Interviewee: Man

Q: What does a day look like for you in track?

A: It’s very tiring, but it’s super fun and energizing to do. We practice for several running events like the relay races, as well as that field events, like javelin, shock put, and long jump.

Q: Is doing track harder than before with the pandemic?

A: I would definitely say that it’s harder, since I wasn’t in shape like I was before the pandemic.

Q: What activities are available?

A: There are the field events as mentioned earlier, relay races, and the running events consist of different distances, like 100 meter, 400 meter, 800 meter, and mile run.

Q: How long are the meetings?

A: The track practices are around 2 hours, but it can take more or less. The field events specifically take a bit longer.

Q: When are the track meetings?

A: This season, we only have about two meetings per week, usually on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday.

Q: Do you enjoy being in track? And would you recommend it to a friend?

A: I enjoy track a lot, since it forces me to be active in not just P.E. I’m definitely more in shape than I used to be. I would recommend it to a friend since it’s very fun and active, especially since we just had a pandemic, where most people stayed inside their houses the whole time.

special to the Bugle from Amy N

The Alameda Youth Committee, also known as AYC, is a leadership group comprised of kids in grades 6th-12th. Students initiate, plan, assist, and lead a variety of community projects and events. This spring, the committee is raising money for the Alameda Food Bank from

Monday, April 19th, to Sunday, March 23rd. At this time, AYC understands the need for food as more people lack money or are becoming food insecure due to the pandemic, therefore, the committee is dedicated to helping as many people as possible. To help contribute, scan the QR code to visit the donation website, and please remember, for every $1 donated, $7 worth of food can be purchased for a community member in need.
