Visual communication is one of the most universal forms of design. It is at the heart of how our world works; guiding, informing, persuading, and inspiring us everyday.
DVC is a Y9 and 10 elective. In this course students learn a variety of model making, CAD, freehand and instrumental drawing methods. We teach them how to solve problems and consider stakeholders, and sustainability as they develop their ideas towards a brief.
This is a popular option as it offers students the opportunity to pursue their own interests through their design ideas. They can personalise their designs and even negotiate their learning by writing their own brief. Smart Devices are a must in DVC, they are fantastic tools needed to be an informed designer! There are always recommended sites or tutorials to view as well as the possibilities for computer aided design to be incorporated. This is a fantastic course to take if you are interested in becoming an Architect, Interior Designer, Industrial Designer, Illustrator, Graphic Designer, Product Designer or any other creative endeavor.

Students to develop skills in instrumental and freehand drawing. They will create drawing in 2 point perspective, orthographic projection, isometric and oblique views. Students will develop their own tiny space, writing a brief and designing for their chosen target market. Modeling is investigated in term 3 and CAD software in term 4. Students need to be creative, developing and justifying original ideas. Across the year students are encouraged to develop skills in a range of media and presentation methods while developing a freehand sketching portfolio.
Students are able to take DVC for both semester 1 and semester 2 in year 9. In semester 1 students learn to draw using isometric and 1 point perspective, then develop a pair of novelty glasses inspired by a designer of their own selection.
In semester 2 students will learn how to draw in 2 point perspective and develop their ability to draw curves in isometric. Then we will develop a t-shirt print design and apply that to create a product.
Across both semesters students will develop a freehand sketching portfolio. Experimentation with media and presentation methods is encouraged.
