BYOSD or Bring Your Own Smart Device such as a laptop or Chromebook etc has been welcomed by the Technology Faculty.
These tools are great for recording notes, taking photo's of class work, research in a busy room full of specialist equipment.
Through the use of these devices in the classroom teachers and students can:
- access relevant information and resources they can use anytime, anywhere
- source resources at the correct level of learning
- extend students through online tutorials and self guided projects
- use sites such YouTube to access visual demonstrations of skills
- get students to collaborate on projects and through shared documents and sites
- demonstrate and record the stages of construction of their projects
- instantly research any information required for the project at hand
- email missed work and resources to students at home to complete and share
- support literacy , design and creativity through the use of Apps
- use Google Apps to assist students in personal organisation
- track homework, classwork as well as publish and share information with parents
If a student is planning to take the Digital Technologies course in Y9 and Y10 having their own laptop rather than a Chromebook can allow them to purse a more individualised program of study. This will enable students to download software as needed.
Another great aspect is that because students are so attached to their Devices we never have to worry about books left at home! It has been great to see our students using BYOSD for meaningful purposes rather than just social media! If you have any questions about software requirements or want to know the best kind of device for your child please check out the basic school suggested devices here.
