Technology is one of the eight essential curriculum areas of learning. It has so much to offer and it is highly recommended at least one Technology subject is chosen for study at Year 9 and 10. We currently have 6 Technology options on offer at AJHS, Fabric technology, Computer Science, Food Technology, Construction Technology, Digital Creative Technology, and Design & Visual Communication. These courses offer learners the skill sets they will need when venturing into NCEA in Year 11.
The Year 9 tech courses have been split in two halves but can be elected to be taken twice as a full year course.
This is to help develop a more refined set of skills and allow those students who have a greater interest in Technology to explore their interests.
Year 9.1 teaches students core subject skills in the area as well as vocabulary. 9.2 courses aim at a higher difficulty and teach students more in-depth skills to build on what they learn in 9.1. Although it is not compulsory that they take 9.1 before 9.2 it is recommended. Each semester has a different design project associated with it.
In year 10 students elect subjects to be taken for the full year and students should be selecting subjects that they think they may want to pursue in year 11 to prepare themselves with the skills needed for NCEA.
