Management of Home Learning

• The main port of call for Secondary students for each individual subject is Google Classroom. Students and teachers have been using this in the secondary school since 2019 so your child should know how to use this platform. If there are any problems they just need to email their subject teacher for help.

• Teachers will post activities that are equivalent to the regular teaching schedule. So if your child has double English on Monday for example, their English teacher will make sure there is enough work posted on their Google Classroom page for those 2 hours.

• The work posted may include recorded tutorials, online activities or worksheets. An explanation of what the activity is, when it is due and any other expectations will be provided by the teacher through Google Classroom. There are many ways that teachers and students can interact on the student's work, such as commenting on Google docs or using the discussion forum on Google Classroom. Students can expect feedback on their work at regular intervals.

• We understand that working independently may be difficult, so teachers will also be available each lesson, (during regular scheduled class) for live instruction, or questions with the class*. Teachers will use aspects of the Google Suite for this; for example this may take place via Google Chat or Google Meet. Teachers will communicate when this will take place via Google Classroom. Please make sure that your child has a quiet area in which they can join this online class, it is recommended this is not their bedroom if possible (due to Child Protection). Also, please be aware that, for safeguarding concerns, only students should join these classes. Please do not request a private Meet with a student's teacher, as individual support or guidance can be provided through email or over the phone.

• STRIVE teachers will also arrange an online STRIVE class once a week to touch base with the STRIVE group to provide wellbeing support, more information regarding student wellbeing is here.

*It is recommended by The NSW Department of Education, Continuity of Education: Guidelines to Support Schools using Live Video with Students 'where possible that Teachers pre-record lessons and use live sessions for feedback from the Teacher and Q & A. These sessions should be no more than 20 minutes each'.
