Home Learning in the Early Years

The Early Years home learning program is a response to the directive from the Singapore Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Council for Private Education that schools must close for an extended period.

This action has been taken to ensure the health and wellbeing of the community.

The Home Learning Program in the Early Years honors the parent as the child's first teacher and we understand that as a parent of a young child you will need to take on an active role in working with your child. Our teachers will be sharing a wide range of learning experiences that you can engage in with your child.

• On Monday 13 April, parents will receive an email from your child’s class teacher sharing with you a link to join their daily small group class meetings along with your allocated time.
• Teachers will also be sharing a weekly overview of the learning engagements and a list of resources that you may require for week 1. Subsequent weekly overviews will be shared each Friday afternoon.
• Detail for approximate time frames for Home Learning in the Early Years

Below are examples of the types of Storypark posts that you can expect to receive from your child's teachers:

• Video explanation of learning engagements created by the classroom teacher.
• Mindfulness activities.
• A summary of the key concepts/ topics that you can explore in a variety of subjects, e.g. Maths, Language, Unit of Inquiry, Music, Physical Education, Mandarin, Outdoor Education.
• Stories read by the teacher with follow up questions and possible activities.
• Photos of activities and description of how to engage your child.
• Parent Readings related to child development and growth.
• Support with care routines at home - sleeping, eating and toileting.

• Teachers will be using the Early Years Learning Framework learning outcomes to design the learning engagements that are sent home.
• Learning engagements have been designed by teachers for parents to use at home with their children. We understand that we cannot replicate the school environment at home. In the Early Years, we see this as a wonderful opportunity for parents to play and learn alongside their children.
• Through the parent/child/teacher daily class meetings, our teachers will be able to support you with the learning engagements and continue to build beautiful connections with your child.
