Live Animals
General
The carriage of live animals is subjected to the latest edition of IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR) in their entirety, and any (additional) government regulations which apply in the state of origin, transit and destination. The carriage of Live Animals in Thai AirAsia aircraft limit to:
a. Fish
b. Shellfish
c. Worm
All persons involved in the shipping, accepting or loading of live animals must be familiar with the specific handling requirements for each species. It is essential that animals always travel in safe, healthy and humane conditions.
NOTE: Thai AirAsia does not perform the carriage of Live Animals, except for live seafood / human consumption.
Acceptance Procedure
Live animals only can be accepted for carriage unless advance arrangement made and obtained a confirmation from the participating carriers.
Thai AirAsia only accept animals which appear to be in good health and condition and check that the provision in IATA Live Animals Regulations has been complied with by the shipper. Special attention must be paid to the followings;
a. Documentation including Shippers and documents requires at the destination
b. Containers conform to the principles of design
c. Marking and labelling
d. Reservation and routing
in situations where animals, such as fish or other aquatic species, are transported in sealed containers that require being fully immersed in water to survive, their well-being could be at risk if the inner containers are visually inspected by opening the outer containers during the acceptance process.
Thai AirAsia only responsible for ensuring that the outer container meets the relevant provision of the appropriate container requirements in IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR).
The Live Animals Checklist must be used during acceptance to ensure that all of the requirement have been complied with
The person checking the consignment must tick each answer with a ”Yes” or “No” as applicable. If the answer is “No” it is an indication that the consignment does not comply with IATA Live Animals Regulation (LAR). The consignment must not be accepted for carriage and duplicate copy of the completed checklist must be given to the shipper.
NOTE: Thai AirAsia is not accepted Laboratory Animals for carriage.

Documentation
Shipper Certifications
a. The shipper or his authorized agent must complete a Shipper’s Certification for Live Animals for Each Shipment.
b. The certification from must be completed in English. If required, the wording in English may be supplemented by accurate printed translation in other languages.
c. Two copies of the certification form must be completed and signed. One signed copy will be retained by the carrier which accepted the shipment from the shipper. The other signed copy will be sent with the shipment and attached to documents for the final destination.
d. The shipper or his agent must sign the shipper’s Certification for Live Animals. Hand-written or stamped facsimile signature is acceptable where permitted.
Air Waybill
a. Live Animals must not be entered on the same air waybill as other commodities.
b. In the “Nature and Quantity” of Goods box in the air waybill, the common name of the animal in English(apart from any other language) must be given and. Where possible must be given and, where possible must correspond to those specified in IATA Live Animals Regulations (LAR). The quantity of animals in the consignments must be stated.
c. 24 hours emergency telephone number (including country and area code as applicable). The 24 hours of emergency contact must be shown in the “Handling Information" Box.
Other Documents
a. Any Specimen of species included in one of the three CITES appendices must be accompanied by a CITES document.
b. The shipper is responsible for providing the applicable original health declarations and permits required by the national authorities of countries of export, transshipments, and import. When such documents are forwarded with the consignment the original set of the health documentation must be securely attached to the air waybill.
c. In the absence of an air waybill, the original set of health documentation must be securely attached to the animal container and appropriately marked unless specific container dictates otherwise.
d. A duplicate set of documents may be attached to the outside of the animal container to facilitate handling process. A duplicate set can also serve as the Thai AirAsia’s file / station copy.
Container Requirements
The species on the shipper’s certificate has been checked against Live Animal Regulation (LAR) for correct Container Requirement.
The container presented is constructed for the required materials and is of sufficient strength to contain the animal.
The container is leak-proof or constructed from waterproof material rigid and strong enough to withstand damage by being stacked or when tied down onto pallet.
It must be constructed of non-toxic material; chemically impregnated wood may be poisonous and must not be used.
The container must not cause the animal to damage itself. All inside edges must be smooth or rounded. There must be no sharp edges or projections such as nail, upon which the animal can injure itself.
It must be suitable for staff to handle and provide the protection of the handler from being clawed or bitten by the animal.
Labelling
The shipper is responsible to ensure Live animals are correctly labelled and marked.
The “This Way Up” labels on all four sides of the container whenever possible.
A label may be punched through to the ventilation holes to allow the passage of air.
After acceptance, if discover that labels have been lost, detached or are illegible, they must be replaced.
It is mandatory to attached at least one IATA “Live Animals” label as illustrated to each Live Animal container unless otherwise stated in the individual container requirements. Any damage label must be replaced.
Restrictions
NOTE : Thai AirAsia does not perform the carriage of Live Animals, except for live seafood / human consumption. Thai AirAsia does not accept Laboratory Animals for carriage.
