Standard Operating Procedure
Human Remains
General
Human Remains (which are not cremated) may be accepted for carriage on all MAA flights as cargo, providing that all packaging and documentation requirements are met. Human Remains must not be accepted as part of a consolidated shipment or mixed consignment or in a Unit Load Device (ULD). Only One HUM may be carried at a time on a given aircraft. The deceased body must be devoid of any infectious diseases. Human Remains shall only be managed and handled by a known consignor or regulated agent.
Booking arrangements
To reduce the risk of offloading, customers and shippers are to contact Teleport Planners and Teleport Helpdesk on the HUM movements in advance, to confirm the total weight and dimensions of the casket or coffin planned for carriage. The Teleport Planners and Helpdesk will cross-check dimensions with the aircraft requirements.
Note for agents: Â Please send a pre-alert to maa_cargoops@airasia.com before submitting HUM cargo (or after creating a booking in SmartKargo).
Packing requirements
Packaging should be appropriate to ensure contents are well-contained and protected. Human remains must be contained in a solid coffin made of lead or zinc or a flexible container that is hermetically sealed within. A wooden or metal coffin must be packed with inner containment. The wooden or metal coffin may be wrapped in canvas or tarpaulin to conceal the contents of the casket and protect it from harm. Packaging should be appropriate to ensure contents are well-contained and protected.

Full information on permits
Death Certificate from the appropriate authorities
Embalming certificate issued by an authority confirming that the HUM has been embalmed and packed in accordance with the relevant local regulations and IATA guidelines
