A bióloga marinha e ecologista norte-americana Rachel Louise Carson,era também escritora. Através da publicação do best seller Silent Spring em 1962, ajudou a lançar a consciência ambiental moderna. Seu pensamento ajudou o mundo a mudar o modo de lidar com o meio ambiente. Desde a infância, influenciada pela mãe, interessava-se pela natureza.Em 1929 graduou-se na Pennsylvania College for Women, estudou na Woods Hole Marine Biológica Laboratory e depois formou-se em zoologia pela Universidade Johns Hopkins em 1932.No exame de serviço civil, ela superou todos os outros candidatos e em 1936 tornou se a segunda mulher do Bureau of Fisheries, contratado para uma posição profissional como bióloga.As sua primeiras publicações foram sobre os estudos das espécies e seres vivos que viviam nos mares e oceanos como: Under The Sea Wind , The Sea Around Us , que foram sucessos internacionais

In 1929 she graduated from Pennsylvania College for Women, studied at Woods Hole Marine Biological Laboratory and then received a degree in zoology from Johns Hopkins University in 1932.
On the civil service exam, she outperformed all other candidates and in 1936 became the second woman in the Bureau of Fisheries hired into a professional position as a biologist.
His first publications were on the studies of species and living beings that lived in the seas and oceans, such as: Under The Sea Wind, The Sea Around Us, which were international successes.
