Gregor Johann Mendel foi um biológico, botânico, frade agostiniano da igreja Católica e meteorologista austríaco nascido em 20 de julho de 1822 em Hynčice, Vražné, na Chéquia, e faleceu em 6 de janeiro de 1884 em Brun, na Chéquia. Os pais de Gregor chamavam-se Anton Mendel e Rosine Mendel, também tinha 2 irmãs chamadas Theresia Mendel e Veronica Mendel.
Gregor formou-se na universidade de Viena chamada Palacký University Olomouc e também escreveu diversos livros como Versuche über Pflanzen-Hybriden e outros. Gregor ganhou o prémio de Ordem de Francisco José. Gregor era chamado o pai da Genética porque fez varias descubertas relativas à hereditariedade.

He passed away on January 6, 1884, in Brno, Czech Republic. Gregor's parents were Anton Mendel and Rosine Mendel, and he had two sisters named Theresia Mendel and Veronica Mendel.
Gregor graduated from the University of Vienna, known as Palacký University Olomouc, and also wrote several books, including "Experiments on Plant Hybrids" and others.
