Self Isolating?

If you are self isolating due to Covid - 19 this page provides all the information you need to ensure you are able to access important school work from home and all the support you would normally associate with school.

We understand how frustrating self isolation can be, just remember you are playing an important part in keeping your friends, family and the wider community safe! We want to ensure that even when you are physically unable to be in school that you are able to access and benefit from everything school offers whilst online.

If you would like to speak to someone about how you feel use this link to get in touch.

Keeping you on track whilst isolating

Mr Calcutt is the Remote Learning Co-ordinator at Greenwood Academy.

Mr Calcutt’s role is to ensure students return from self-isolating having made best use of the time to continue their school work whilst physically away from the building. The Remote Learning Co-ordinator works with students and teachers to ensure work is provided and that they can access learning, ensuring your child continues to develop academically. If your child is struggling while at home, Mr Calcutt is your point of contact.

Mr Calcutt is available throughout the school day, running morning and afternoon virtual registrations and providing Track & Trace services to isolate the virus and keep your children safe.

You can contact him at jcalcutt@greenwoodacademy.org

Getting started

We expect pupils to continue with all of their lessons online so they can carry on their education with little or no disruption. If you need a device to access virtual learning please contact the Academy via contactus@greenwoodacademy.org or on 0121 464 6101.

Virtual Registration & Your Child’s Timetable

All pupils will receive an email from Mr Calcutt, our Remote Learning Coordinator, at 8:30am each morning. This will include a link to a virtual registration meeting. Your child needs to access the link on the email twice each day: 8:45am - 9:00am each morning and 2:00pm - 2:15pm each afternoon. This is so that Mr Calcutt can ensure that your child has received the work they need. Their attendance of registration will be monitored and failure to attend will be followed up. If a member of staff is absent, work will be set in the classroom for the pupils to complete. Unless they are ill, we expect all pupils to log on at 8.45am and follow their usual timetable with break & lunch at the same time as if they were in school.

Some teachers are running ‘live lessons’ over Google Hangout. Please ensure that you ask your children to wait for at least 10 mins at the start of each lesson as staff are travelling between zones and need time to set up and log on.

Technology help

  • Check that your wifi at home can access videos, and if it cannot contact the school and let them know.
  • Ensure you and your child have access to the website in which their school will place their daily lessons. In most cases, this will be Google Classroom, but for some schools, this may be Hegarty Maths, MathsWatch or GCSE Pod. If you are unsure, call and ask for Mr Calcutt.
  • Make sure your child has the user account and password for the website in the above point. If they don’t, they can get it from Mr Calcutt.
  • Make sure you and your child know the virtual learning timetable and how to access the daily lessons. If you have any questions or need more information, contact Mr Calcutt.
