At Greenwood Academy we recognise the importance of post 16 education. We pride ourselves on offering a recently reviewed, highly academic curriculum, that is designed to prepare our students for Higher Education, training, and working life. Our curriculum has been adapted to meet the needs of students, employers, and Universities.
We offer a wide range of A Level and vocational subjects which are delivered by specialist teachers. This is aspirational for students who wish to achieve their academic potential in a modern and supportive learning environment.
The Student Council and our Academic, Community, and Employability (A.C.E) scheme offer our Sixth Form students the opportunity to develop their character and self-confidence by helping others enabling them to act as role models for our younger students.
Greenwood Sixth Form Centre provides students with excellent facilities for personal study during supervised study sessions and before and after school. The workroom is fully equipped with modern computers and personal laptops, where students can use their study time to catch up on homework, review their learning and to revise.
Our students benefit from both academic and pastoral support. Our students have regular meetings with the Director of Sixth Form, where they discuss targets and strategies to help them achieve their target grades. In addition, the team is on hand to support students through any personal difficulties they encounter. Students and parents are informed of progress regularly throughout the year with intervention and support put into place wherever it is needed. Students also benefit from specific enrichment activities during which they receive guidance and coaching on how to become an effective learner, prepare for examinations and achieve the very highest grades, as well as receiving guidance and support for the next stages of their lives, post Sixth Form.
The overwhelming majority of our students decide to continue their education at University. In 2019, we have students attending many Russell Group Universities including the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick. We also place students on prestigious school leaver schemes and secure placements for some of our students on extremely competitive Higher Level apprenticeships including Jaguar Land Rover, Rolls Royce and British Aerospace. We provide many opportunities for students to research and experience all of the opportunities available to them.
We are very proud of the students we receive into our Sixth Form whether they are new to the school or if they have been with us since Year 7. The attitude to learning demonstrated by our students and the desire to be part of the whole school experience continues to reflect within the school’s motto of ‘every child having a remarkable life.’
