At Greenwood Academy, it is our aim to ensure we, “Levare”: ‘lift’ motivation, outcomes and aspirations for all students here, from Castle Vale and beyond, by ensuring that we provide an excellent education to every child, in every classroom, everyday. An excellent education is an entitlement for every child, and it is our moral imperative to do so, in order for all to achieve.
We are bold in our ambitions: aiming to be one of the best schools in the country by 2030. We are unequivocal and unashamed about this because we believe our students and our community deserve the best.
We aim to strive towards these goals by adopting four values that each leader, member of staff, and student embodies:
Be Unusually Brave: We're not afraid to make the right call – and we challenge wrongs, even when it's difficult to do so.
Discover What's Possible: We create ‘eureka’ moments for our pupils, helping them to discover new possibilities and opportunities.
Push the Limits: We don’t settle for anything less than excellent – and we won’t allow our pupils to, either.
Be Big Hearted: We choose to treat each other with kindness, warmth and care. We believe that everybody matters equally.
Our diverse community is our strength, and we believe all children, irrespective of their background, can achieve excellent outcomes through us celebrating and emphasising ‘The Greenwood Way’: a focus on high quality teaching, strong routines, an inclusive culture, traditional beliefs on discipline, uniform and respect, and the belief that rich experiences enlighten our students.
We are equipping our students not only for now, but also to meet the demands of tomorrow with vigour.
Daniel Opoku
Principal
"Greenwood Academy is a caring, welcoming school. Staff take time to get to know each pupil. Leaders have created a strong community where staff and pupils look after each other. This extends beyond the school gates. Leaders have built effective links with families and the wider community. Leaders are ambitious for pupils. They want pupils to leave school with the qualifications and experiences they need to be successful. Teachers expect a lot from pupils. Pupils rise to this challenge. They are rightly proud of their work and take their studies seriously. Teachers are quick to recognise and celebrate pupils’ success. "
