Drama

KS3 Drama lessons offer the opportunity to acquire a vast array of performance and technical skills by studying a diverse and relevant range of schemes of work. Drama lessons at Years 7 and 8 have recently increased to 3 lessons a fortnight with the aim of improving confidence and communication skills to enhance public speaking, we believe that as students’ articulation and confidence improves they will have a better chance of obtaining places at university or in professional employment.

At Key Stage 4 we offer courses in both Drama and Performing Arts and have enjoyed success with our examination results for many years. The Drama GCSE offers opportunities for students to learn experimental techniques and equip themselves with the knowledge and beliefs or a wide range of diverse theatrical practitioners whilst the Btec Performing Arts course gives the pupils a real taste of what it is like to work as part of a professional theatre company; devising your own plays as well as performing scripted plays in front of a live audience. Both courses offer an insight and training into the technical and production side of theatre as well as directing, script-writing, stage design and choreography.

Over the years we have built up partnerships with a number of theatre companies that are carefully selected to enhance the Drama education of our students. Regular workshops and educational visits have included;

  • Volcano Theatre Company
  • Big Brum Theatre in Education
  • Frantic Assembly
  • The Hippodrome
  • The Birmingham Repertory Theatre

Here at Greenwood Academy we take Drama very seriously which means there is a lot of hard work involved but it is hugely rewarding. Many of our pupils have recently continued their study of performing arts at the prestigious Birmingham Ormiston Academy, The Birmingham Rep, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, the list goes on. If you live in the local area and you have a passion for performing arts this really is the place to be!
