Teaching Task:
After participating in the unit activities, readings, and notes, you will participate in a team debate.
Explanation:
Working in your team you will prepare your arguments and present them through a debate format. You will use reliable sources through the database or fully verified articles(Must submit a verification). You must fully prepare and practice!
Requirements:

Grading: Criteria C, D
~You will be graded on the actual debate. If you miss your debate day, you will need to complete the alternate assignment.
Roles: (Steps you are responsible for will depend on whether you are on the Pro/ Affirmative (AFF) or Con/ Negative (NEG) side of the argument.)
Teams of 4:
1- The Opener (AFF= Step 1 ) (NEG= Steps 3)
2- The Follower (AFF= Step 5) (NEG=Step 7)
3- The Questioner (AFF= Step 4 & 8) (NEG=Step 2 & 6 )
4- The Closer (AFF= Step 10 ) (NEG=Step 9 )
Teams of 5-6:
1- The Opener (AFF= Step 1 ) (NEG= Steps 3)
2- The Follower (AFF= Step 5) (NEG=Step 7)
3- The Questioner 1 (AFF= Step 4) (NEG=Step 2 )
4- The Questioner 2-3 (AFF= 8) (Neg= Step 6)
5- The Closer (AFF= Step 10 ) (NEG=Step 9 )
Debate Format:(You will be in teams of 4-5)
Step 1: First Affirmative Constructive (2-4 min)
~A good introduction that attracts the audiences attention and interest in the topic
~Clearly states the resolution
~Clearly state each of your contentions (support with reason and evidence)
~Conclude effectively
Step 2: Cross Examine of the Affirmative by one of the Negative (3-6 min)
~Ask questions -have a direction to your questioning
~Be courteous- Face the audience
~Be polite and respectful-do not interrupt each other
Step 3: First Negative Constructive (2-4 min)
~A good introduction that attracts the audiences attention and interest in the topic
~Clearly state the Negative’s position on the topic
~Clearly state the Negative’s observations
~Support with reason and evidence
~Attack/Question the Affirmative’s evidence
~Conclude effectively
Step 4: Cross Examine of the Negative by one of the Affirmative (3-6 min)
~Ask questions -have a direction to your questioning
~Be courteous- Face the audience
~Be polite and respectful-do not interrupt each other
Step 5: Second Affirmative Constructive(2-4 Min)
~A good introduction that attracts the audiences attention and interest in the topic
~Clearly state each of your contentions (support with reason and evidence)-May introduce new information
~Responds to Negative arguments/attacks
~Conclude effectively
Step 6: Cross Examine of the Affirmative by the other Negative (3-6 min)
~Ask questions -have a direction to your questioning
~Be courteous- Face the audience
~Be polite and respectful-do not interrupt each other
Step 7: Second Negative Constructive (2-4 min)
~A good introduction that attracts the audiences attention and interest in the topic
~Clearly state the Negative’s observations- the second Negative can introduce additional observations- Support with reason and evidence
~Attack and question the Affirmative’s contentions/evidence
~Conclude effectively
Step 8: Cross examine of the Negative by the other Affirmative (3-6 min)
~Ask questions -have a direction to your questioning
~Be courteous- Face the audience
~Be polite and respectful-do not interrupt each other
Step 9: Final Negative Rebuttal (3-5 min)
~Rebuild the Negative case(summary)
~Summarize how the Negative’s position is superior to Affirmative’s
~Conclude Effectively
