Week 5

This week in Writer’s Workshop, we finished making edits to our memoirs with community of editors and turned them in to Mrs. Carla to be printed in a spiral-bound book to keep. These collections of 4 short stories have been so fun to write and read.

In Civilization, we visited 2000 BC and the first cities of India as well as 1800 and Ancient China. While studying ancient China, we discussed the work that went into daily life by all members of the family and compared it to the work our Eagles do in their daily life now. They decided they do not work as hard as children did in ancient times since they aren’t having to help make money for their family.

We sprinted to the finish line in quest work this week, putting the final touches on our businesses, writing sales pitches, and practicing sales pitches on one another. On Friday, you could sense the nerves and excitement over the exhibition as Eagles came in in the morning. Each brought their supplies and designs for their booths with them. We spent our day working on Core Skills and after lunch we got down to business prepping for family members to come to the Exhibition.

During the Exhibition, around 25 family members (parents, grandparents, and siblings) shopped our marketplace with our eagle bucks. They purchased from all 14 booths - tie dye t shirts from Madison, charms from Lexi, hand sewn stuffies from Jack, loom bracelets from Brecken, dairy-free icing cupcakes from Blair, lemonade and cookies from Bridget, hand drawn coloring pages from Chloe, handmade ornaments from Emery, custom stickers from Sophie, lemonade and cookies from Valentina, handmade soap from Olivia, custom wood signs from Camden, clay sculptures from Gus, and homemade banana bread muffins from Hudson. We announced the top 3 sellers with the most profit - Olivia with $90, Lexi with $95, and Madison was our winner with $150 in profit.

Next, we take a week off for Thanksgiving break and then we begin Acton Athens!
