Week 2

Year 1, Session 1, Week 2

This week in the studio our Eagles learned about and began setting SMART goals. What is a SMART goal? It is a Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable, and Timely goal we focus on in Core Skills time. Our Eagles set these at the beginning of each Core Skills session so they have something to focus on and know how to best use their time.

We also began to “play the contract game” so that we can work on setting our Studio Contract for the year. We play the game every day focusing on different guardrails and deciding if they work in our studio or not. The first item that made it onto our contract was “I promise to be honest with myself and others in a kind way.”

On Tuesday, we spoke about traditions and what makes them important to us as a society. After spending the day thinking about them, Chloe proposed a daily prayer and thankfulness circle in the morning and Madison proposed a daily favorites game in the afternoon circle. We have had fun trying out these traditions to bring our tribe closer together.

This week we also began our first Writer’s Workshop; this session we will be focusing on creating poetry and eventually turning it into visual art. Our learners started with the deep question “What is poetry” and answered it alongside their favorite poem. A few of our favorite poems were even Eagle originals!

Physical Development kicked off this week with stretching followed by a rousing game of flag football, both led by our oldest male Eagles, Camden and Preston. Art also kicked off this week. We are using an online program called Artful Kids and doing their Land and Sea program this session. This week we did a Sea of Japan project.

We ended the week with wonderful character call outs, awarding our first badges, and a belated celebration for Blair’s birthday complete with cookie cake!
