Week 1

This week, we came back together after our first break and kicked off the Entrepreneurship Quest! I greatly missed our Eagles while we were separated and was so sad to have missed much of this week due to illness. I am so grateful that Mr. William was able to substitute for me so school could go on like normal for our Eagles.

We introduced Freedom Levels this week, a system where our Eagles will earn their freedom amount in the studio through points earned each week during Core Skills and 360 reviews. All of our Eagles will begin in the Flying level and we will revisit their levels after 3 weeks of earning points and doing reviews. We believe that this system will help remind our Eagles to focus on setting and filling in daily SMART goals as well as getting used to giving and receiving 360 reviews each week.

We began the Entrepreneurship Quest this week with visits to Motivation and Market Islands. In Motivation Island, we focused on what motivates you and what you like to do to come up with a business idea. The culmination of Motivation Island was the Business Idea Ticket which opened up the rest of the Quest to our Eagles. Market Island focused on thinking about who their target market would be and what they would look like. We are focusing on these ideas as things for this session Exhibition as well as potential ideas for the Children’s Business Fair that we will host in the spring!

We began the prewriting phase of our new section of Writer’s Workshop as well. This session, we are writing memoirs that focus on telling 4 different kinds of short stories. The Eagles began by coming up with story ideas and details.

We also had our first Civilization sessions this week! We are delving into ancient civilization this year with a process that includes reading from a book and having group discussion questions. This week, we traveled back to 5000 BC and learned about the Earliest People and to 3100 BC to learn about the Egyptians living on the Nile River.

Next up, we begin drafting our short stories, move through the islands of our quest, and continue to work through ancient civilization together. We will also being art next week!
