Week 3

This week in the studio our Eagles started by setting their weekly agenda for the first time. This will help them see what the plan for the week is, and during weekly reflections on Friday it allowed them to see what they did well.

On Monday, we watched the Lip Dub competition videos and voted on our favorite one. It took quite a while to get through 37 videos, and the Eagles upheld the rules of the competition very well immediately disqualifying videos that broke the rules (must be shot in one take, no post-editing outside of dubbing over the song, whole class must sing the last part of the song, and everyone must be seen lip synching at some point). We couldn’t vote for our own video (or they would have), so we voted for Wonder Academy in Wichita, Kansas.

On Tuesday, we underwent First Aid Training with the Red Cross - all 16 of our Eagles are now First Aid certified for 2 years! It was a long morning, but we spent an hour outside afterwards to run off energy.

We continued to “play the contract game” this week, selecting more promises for our community contract including promises to try to learn something new every day, listen intently, and to change the community with greatness.

This week we continued our Writer’s Workshop on poetry by writing the first drafts of our haiku, free verse, and odes. The Eagles wrote about things they love, their passions, and people who are important to them. We are excited to show these off at the exhibition in a few weeks.

We also continued our Land and Sea art segment with a drawing and coloring of Mt. Kinabalu in Malaysia. The Eagles used pencils, paper, colored pencils, crayons, oil pastels, and tempera paint to show off this beautiful landscape.

Our Eagles also hosted an impromptu Teacher's Day on Thursday, making a banner about things they like about Mrs. Carla, cards, paper flowers, and paper airplanes. It was very sweet and Mrs. Carla appreciated their generosity and love.

We celebrated 2 birthdays this week complete with Gigi’s cupcakes for Chloe’s birthday and Shipley’s Donuts for Brecken’s belated birthday.

Looking forward to next week, we are excited to begin planning and prepping for our first Exhibition!
