Week 1

Year 1, Session 1, Week 1

It’s been a wonderful first ever week in the studio. Eagles brought so much energy with them each day. Our first day brought about new faces, new places, and new friends. We experienced the normal first day jitters (mostly from Mrs. Carla, I think), but they were quickly dispelled by teamwork and the fun of working together on our first project.

This week, the Eagles worked hard on their first group project - an entry to the Acton Academy Network Film Festival – A Lip Dub. Our video is done to the song Heroes by Alesso and our Eagles are excited about watching other entries and voting. Led by Mrs. Carla, every Eagle has an important part to play. Teams worked and worked until they could finally say their work was EXCELLENT!

But what is excellence? How would they know when it’s done? Questions like, “Is this our best work? Is it better than last time? How does it compare to a world-class example? Is it ready for Public Exhibition?” guided the iteration process until finally, “YES!” was their answer. They are so proud of their work and excited to show it off to our families.

Games like Scavenger Hunts, Striking a Pose, Name Games, and crossing a Chocolate River all worked to help Eagles build their tribe and work together. Reflections included statements like, “I think we should work together more” and “We work better when everyone is listening and being respectful.”

We ended the week with our first character callouts and a belated celebration of Gus’ birthday featuring Tiff’s Treats chocolate chip cookies!

Looking ahead: Writer’s Workshop, Art, and Physical Development, and Core Skills all kick off next week!

The Eagles had lots of fun on the pirate ship and playing outside this week!
