The Room at the Inn is a warming shelter designed to provide emergency shelter during the cold Missouri winter months. The shelter can house any individual or family who needs a safe, warm place to stay from December 1 until the end of February. Located at 626 E. Summit, Mexico, MO, Room at the Inn is open from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m.
Guests residing at Room at the Inn receive much more than shelter because the Audrain County Shelter Resource Coalition ensures that the staff and volunteers who operate Room at the Inn are knowledgeable and compassionate. This means every person who walks through the door will be listened to and cared for. ACSRC staff and volunteers are also well-informed about available resources that can assist Room at the Inn residents. Along with companionship and assistance, every evening, guests receive a warm, often home-cooked meal. And when our guests leave in the morning, they do not leave empty-handed. Thanks to our supportive community, we can provide personal hygiene items like deodorant, shampoo, and conditioner; food items like peanut butter crackers, apples, and water bottles; and items that keep our guests comfortable, like crew socks, stocking caps, and gloves.
Since its beginning, Room at the Inn has housed 288 individuals for a total of 2,737 bed nights and has served 5,097 meals to hungry guests and community members. Unfortunately, emergency shelters will always be needed, and we will be here to meet the need.
