Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance is an umbrella term describing children and young people who experience significant and enduring challenges in attending school due to emotional factors.
The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) have developed a training programme, supported by materials from EdPsychEd. This training is designed for whole establishments, departments, or individual professionals to develop their understanding of Emotionally Based School Non-Attendance (EBSNA). This training will support professionals to understand how learners experience EBSNA and how their families can be supported by schools.

We have created four short taster videos about EBSNA which can be found below. These will give you an insight into our full training. It is a good idea to watch these videos to help you to consider if the full training will be beneficial to you and your establishment.
The full EBSNA training consists of five pre-recorded videos and supporting resources. These videos will take around 2.5-3 hours to complete and can be delivered in one session or split into separate sessions. Once you have completed the full EBSNA training, you will receive a minimum of two follow-up coaching sessions, facilitated by the EPS, to help you to reflect on the training and consider the ongoing implementation in your establishment.
To access our full EBSNA training materials, you must explore the implementation of this with a member of the Educational Psychology Service. This will happen during a Systemic EIC. To find out how to request a Systemic EIC please click here.
