Assistant Fire Chief - Operations
The past year has been a year of accomplishments for operations. With nearly 100,000 calls for service in 2024 (For a detailed breakdown of the calls for service we responded to click Fire Department Statistics Page), training and preparedness were at the core of our operations. Firefighter and Paramedic readiness are essential to successful performance. As you explore each of our four Operational Shifts, you will see that training was prioritized across all shifts and throughout the year.
2024 saw enhanced career staffing at three of our volunteer fire stations that, prior to this year, relied on volunteer participation to meet minimum staffing standards per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Earleigh Heights Volunteer Company, Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, and Arundel Volunteer Fire Department are now staffed 24/7 with career Firefighters and Paramedics, ensuring at least one large piece of fire apparatus and one medical unit is always in service. Additionally, each of the stations can increase their staffing with trained volunteer firefighters to double resources and reinforce effective emergency response in the County.
As we continue to expand and grow in Anne Arundel County, it is important that your emergency services grow with the county's needs. As we look towards the future, we remain committed to continuous evaluation and innovation to adapt to the evolving needs of our growing community while upholding the highest standards of emergency response and public safety.
