2024 Code Enforcement Bureau Annual Report
The Office of the Fire Marshal Code Enforcement Bureau has continued its vital mission to safeguard public safety through the continued integration of Education, Engineering, and Enforcement, known as the Three E's. These core areas play an essential role in reducing fire risks and enhancing community resilience. This report summarizes the Bureau's key accomplishments and initiatives over the past year!
Building Code Compliance: Our team performed just over 3,000 permitted inspections of newly constructed and renovated buildings, ensuring they adhered to the latest codes and safety regulations.
Inspection and Compliance: Over the year, station-level inspections and the Bureau conducted 4,300 routine and follow-up inspections, ensuring adherence to fire and life safety codes.
Unique Inspections: This year, the Bureau conducted 900 unique inspections, including liquor board inspections, foster and adoptive home inspections, fireworks inspections, and mobile food vehicle inspections.
Plan Review: The number of plans, variances, and modifications reviewed increased significantly in 2024, totaling 650 reviews. This reflects the Bureau's continued focus on ensuring that all new and modified structures comply with the highest fire safety standards.
The Bureau is proud to highlight the following professional accomplishments of its team members in 2024:
Inspector Annette Mullarky and Inspector Suzanne Gemignani both became certified in the National Fire Academy Juvenile Fire-Setters Program, expanding the Bureau's capacity to address fire prevention in at-risk youth populations.
Lt. Kimberly Corcoran completed the LDI - First Line Supervisor Training through the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, enhancing her leadership skills and readiness to support the team in fire code enforcement.
Members of the Bureau were recognized for their accomplishments, which culminated in receiving the Fire Chief’s Unit Award.
