Captain - Director of Communications
2024 has been another year of growth for the PIO Team! I am proud to lead an incredible team of creative experts who work diligently to find new and innovative ways to interact positively with our community. Fire Department personnel interact with community members during some of their most difficult times, often leaving no real closure for either our personnel on the scene or those who called 911. However, responding to and mitigating emergencies and ensuring our communities are safe is a core mission of the AACoFD. The PIO Team gets the opportunity to bridge that closure gap through community engagement, social media interactions, and proactive outreach. Fire prevention & education efforts, recruitment, timely news updates, and public gatherings allow us to interact with our communities in less stressful environments. As the PIO Team, we get the privilege to highlight the accomplishments of an exceptional Fire Department with outstanding personnel.

Welcome to the AACo Fire Department Public Information Office (PIO). The following section highlights our Public Information Team's incredible and hardworking efforts! From social media content to recruitment to getting out and about in our communities, 2024 saw an increase in just about everything we do here in the PIO. The PIO Team plays a vital role in keeping our communities informed and safe throughout the year, utilizing almost any platform to get the message to you. Whether it was a current ongoing emergency incident or a scheduled outreach initiative to prevent and educate our community in fire safety and fire prevention, the PIO Team worked to develop new and creative ways to get the essential information out to the public. Recruitment is an ongoing initiative in the Fire Department, and 2024 was no exception. This past year, we recruited and hired 70 new firefighters who will graduate from our Training Academy in 2025. We wish them luck as they begin their recruit training at the AACo Fire Academy in February 2025 as the 65th Fire Recruit Class. Have you ever thought about a rewarding career in the Anne Arundel County Fire Department? The PIO Team wants to hear from you. Take a moment and fill out the Recruitment CARD.
The AACoFD is a 24/7, 365-day-a-year profession that requires a liaison for the media, public, or other stakeholders to be available at any given moment to communicate timely, accurate, and transparent information regarding fire department activities during emergency incidents. The Public Information role consists of those already assigned to the PIO and eleven additional dedicated individuals who go above and beyond their regular duty assignments to assist the PIO with around-the-clock emergency communications coverage. The On-Call Public Information Team is a valued component of the Public Information Office!
