Antonio Alvarez
Manager of Volunteer Fire Services
This year, our dedicated volunteer companies continued to be an invaluable asset to our community alongside our exceptional career personnel. Together, we answered over twelve thousand fire and EMS calls, demonstrating our commitment to protecting our residents.
Our volunteers, both operational and administrative, consistently go above and beyond, contributing significantly to making AACoFD a leading combination department in the state of Maryland.
We are thrilled to have welcomed over 200 new volunteers across our stations in 2024! This remarkable achievement reflects the strong commitment of our community members and the tireless efforts of our recruitment and retention committees. By showcasing the positive impact of volunteerism, we continue to inspire and attract the next generation of fire and EMS professionals.
With Maryland Fire & Rescue Institute (MFRI) courses back to pre-pandemic numbers, our volunteers had more class options, and attendance was up from the prior year. This means we had more opportunities to train volunteers in introductory and advanced courses for those volunteers looking to promote or acquire new skills.Â
Over the year, the volunteer companies had an average of 350 active operational members all over the county who provided support and service to the community in over 12,000 incidents. Our top responding volunteer companies were:
Co. 28 - Odenton Volunteer Fire Compnay
Co. 7 - Arundel Volunteer Fire Deapartment
Co. 12 - Earleigh Heightgs Volunteer Fire Company
We held our annual First Introduction to Rescue & EMS (F.I.R.E.) Camps with 40 county youth members across two weeks.Â
