A Google Group is a collection of individuals who need to work together, but you can use a group in different ways:
The group email address can be used as a way to communicate within a team; an email sent to the group address will be distributed to the group
Other Google resources such as documents and sites can be shared with the group identity, giving all members the same viewing/editing permissions. If a new person arrives, adding them to the group automatically confers access to the group resources and email
The group web interface can be used for a discussion forum, or even as the basis for a simple enquiry system
Any team of people, short term or long term, can simplify collaborative work by creating a group.
