Google+ (http://plus.google.com) is designed like a social sharing network, but is being used as a 'space' separate from personal accounts for academic communities both within and external to the University of York. It is becoming increasingly integrated with Google Apps, making it easier to engage with other people with similar academic interests. Hangouts - browser-based video chats - started life in Google+ but are now integrated with the core applications. They can be used to hold virtual meetings with people in several locations, which can optionally be recorded and uploaded to YouTube for revisiting.
