1 Running for National Office

Becoming an officer of the NJCL is an honor, since you get the chance to engage with many states for National Convention. First, review whether you are eligible to run for National JCL Office.

If you are, you can choose to run. If you're interested in national candidacy, you must make your intent known by the May Board Meeting to Officers and State Chairs.^B5.1 Since each state can only send ONE candidate for any position at National Convention for that year, one candidate will be selected at the May Board Meeting with a majority vote^B5.2.

At this meeting, candidates will deliver a speech (approximately 2 minutes) describing his/her qualifications^B5.2. After that, there will be a brief Open Forum session, where applicants will be asked 1-2 questions by the officers and may be questioned by those present at the meeting. Once the candidates have left the room, there may be discussion, and then a simple majority vote will occur^{B5.3, 4}.
