Facebook: advice for parents, if your child has a Facebook account

    1. Enter your email address as the password recovery address. This will enable you to forget the password and reset things if necessary in the future

    2. Check your child's privacy settings in Facebook

    3. (most information is best restricted to 'friends' only).

    4. Also check their 'App Settings'

    5. Information is shared when facebook users add new applications.

    6. Set up your own Facebook account and add your child as a friend - and/or - Ask for your son/daughter's account passwords so they know that you have access to their profiles.

    7. Talk to your child about what information is suitable for posting and what is not.

    8. Don't force them to set up a secret account!
