Ludington, Sybil

Sybil was born in Fredericksburg, Connecticut in 1761. Sybil helped stop to

advance of the British while providing the American militia more time to

organize an attack. At age 16, she rode about 40 miles alert to militia troops

to gather. Thanks to Sybil’s bravery, the Patriots were prepared and able to

force the British back towards the Long Island Sound. Sybil’s ride was twice

as far as Paul Revere’s. Sybil died in February of 1839.
