Frequently asked questions - TMS Cross Country
* Can I get text notifications?
Yes! Text @TMSRunsXC to 81010 to join our text notification list.
* What kind of commitment is required to be on the team?
While we certainly encourage everyone to attend all practices and meets they are scheduled to race in, we understand other commitments during the fall. Therefore, our minimum commitments to the team are:
6th Grade 2 days a week
7th grade 3 days a week
8th grade 4 days a week
Example: as a 6th grader if I have a meet on Thursday, I only have to come to one other day.
NOTE: This year for additional runner safety, all runners must participate in at least 3 practices prior to running in their first meet.
* When are practices and meets?
Monday - Thursday. We do not hold practice when there is a meet. No practice on Early Release Wednesday. See the calendar posted on the left-hand menu.
* What time do we get back from AWAY meets?
It is difficult to know what time we will arrive back at school. Every team runs their home meets differently. The coaches always make an announcement on the bus when we are 20 minutes away from school, so the students can call for a ride. If a student does not have a cell phone they can borrow one of the coaches. The latest we have ever returned has been 6:00 (Hopkinton) and the earliest is 5:00 (Holliston).
* Should I pack a sandwich for away meets if I am not sure what time they will get back to Westwood?
We encourage all the runners to pack water and healthy snacks for before and after the meets.
* What time do HOME meets end?
We usually race the boys first starting at 3:45. Girls start approximately 10 minutes later. Depending on where the other teams are coming from, the race may start about 15 minutes later. All runners are finished by 4:15. Students must wait for the last runner to cross the finish line before they are allowed to sign-out. Captains will be in charge of course clean-up after every home race. Runners may leave after their run if they have a note from home.
* How do I know if I am on the Green Team or White team and why are there 2 teams?
We will communicate early on in the season regarding Green and White teams. This is intended to allow as many students to participate as possible. I able, we will have ALL students able to attend all away meets.
* Do the eighth graders have to attend all meets?
8th graders are expected to attend all meets. We understand there may be conflicts. If for some reason you cannot make a meet or practice we ask a note or an email is sent in to one of the coaches.
* What does an invitational meet mean?
More than one team will be competing and it may be a qualifying meet.
* What happens if a meet/practice is canceled?
If a meet or practice is cancelled there will be an announcement in school, posted on our webpage and announced via email and text alert.
* What equipment is necessary for meets and practices?
Appropriate running attire is essential for success and injury prevention. All athletes should have comfortable fitting running or cross-training sneakers. Runners should also be mindful of the weather (temperature, rain, wind) and dress accordingly.
