Seniors at Washington High School can complete the local scholarship application to be eligible for multiple local scholarships. The WHS Local Scholarship Application PDF File is attached below. Download it to your desktop. The PDF File can be opened in Adobe Acrobat Reader, filled with the "Fill & Sign Tool", and printed. Local Scholarship applications are due on the last day of Term 2, January 14, 2021, by 3:30 pm.

Senior Silver Cord Hours (150 to earn a Silver Cord) are due to Mr. Buchholz by February 1, 2021 by 3:30 pm.

Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship

Free Speech Essay Contest

High school juniors and seniors are eligible to participate in FIRE's essay contest. To enter, students must submit an essay between 800 and 1000 words on the provided topic. On-A-Roll Academic Program

IGHSAU and Farm Bureau established the On-A-Roll program to recognize students who are not already being recognized for academic success. The purpose of the program is to honor students who show improvement, but may not have honor roll level grades. If the student improves her semester/trimester GPA up to .32 she receives a certificate. If she improves her semester/trimester GPA by .33 or above she receives a medallion. If the student maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA she will receive a certificate.

Scholarships of up to $7,000 ($3,500 per year for a maximum of two years) each have supported higher education for more than 300 Iowa college students. The ultimate goal of this program is to fill Iowa health care positions that currently have a notable number of openings by offering significant financial support to students seeking health care education. Iowa PGA Section Scholarship (Charlie Burkart Scholarship Application)

The Iowa PGA Section of America offers an annual scholarship opportunity in memory of one of our members - Charlie Burkart. this scholarship is open to any graduating senior within our section boundaries and any graduating student of an Iowa high school. It is awarded every year to one recipient. The winner will receive $1500 each year of full-time attendance for four years at a college.

Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their interest and activity in golf and the potential for future contributions to the game, then on their academic ability and financial need. Iowa State OSFA

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) at Iowa State University has created an online scholarship application called FinAidScholar. The FinAidScholar application is a single application for all scholarships administered through the OSFA.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Here are the steps that your students need to complete to be considered for OSFA awards:

1. Go to the scholarship section of ISU’s Financial Aid Website (www.financialaid.iastate.edu)

2. Select the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarships (FinAidScholar) button

3. Select “Freshman”

4. Read the directions and click on Apply HERE!

5. Select the Freshman Application

6. Click on “Apply Here”

7. Complete the application by 1 March

8. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to 1 March

a. The first time a student/family is able to complete the FAFSA application is 1 January of the student’s senior year.

This application is ONLY for scholarships administered through The Office of Student Financial Aid. Please be sure to let your students know that they will need to check with Admission, their college and/or department, and private donors to maximize their scholarship search.

IT Leadership Forum Technology Scholarship

The IT Leadership Forum Technology Scholarship is a $1,000 scholarship awarded to Iowa high school seniors who have been involved in STEM classes or clubs and plan to pursue a technology-related degree at an Iowa college, university or community college.

1. The applicant must be an Iowa resident and high school senior graduating this year.

2. A minimum 3.0 high school grade point average (4.0 scale) is required.

3. The applicant must enroll as a full-time student and pursue a technology-related degree at an Iowa college, university or community college.

5. Provide a high school transcript (can be submitted online).

6. Provide two letters of recommendation (can be submitted online by reference).

7. Write an essay (minimum 500 words; instructions provided within online application).

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

The Cooke College Scholarship Program is an undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend and graduate from the nation's best four-year colleges and universities.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements.

The 2021 Cooke College Scholarship Program application closes on October 30, 2020, at 11:59 p.m., in your local time zone.

James B. Morris Scholarship

The James B. Morris Scholarship Fund (MSF) provides financial assistance, motivation and internship opportunities for Iowa’s minority students pursuing post-secondary and graduate degrees. The MSF provides this assistance to high-achieving individuals who demonstrate strong academic performance, community service and a need for financial aid.

The criteria necessary to apply for the scholarship is that applicants must be of minority ethnic status as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. All applicants must be U.S. Citizens and provide a social security number as well as being: (1) Iowa high school graduates and residents of Iowa who are attending any U.S. College or University; (2) Non-Iowa residents who are attending Iowa colleges or universities.

The Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to honor. Mrs. Scott who was among the 125 individuals who perished in Pentagon during the attacks by terrorists on the morning of September 11, 2001. Eligibility: GPA 3.0 or higher, planning to attend a four-year college or university, leadership through community service and extra-curriculars, combined parent income less than $100,000.

The Washington Community School District, as Trustee, will be awarding the John L. and Anna R. Calkins Medical Scholarship with the anticipated distribution for the spring semester of 2021.
