PeopleService $6,000 Alan Meyer Memorial Scholarship
Who Are We?
PeopleService, Inc. provides water/wastewater contract operations to small-medium sized municipalities and industries throughout the Midwest states of Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri and Nebraska. We have 180 water/wastewater professionals responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of over 190 contracts.
What Is A Water/Wastewater Professional?
No two days are alike as a water/wastewater operator – it can challenge you one day and the next can be smooth sailing. As an operator you are responsible for maintaining a variety of equipment and instruments used to sample and measure water quality – such as various valves and pumps; performing lab analyses; reading, interpreting and adjusting meters and gauges to ensure plant equipment is operating efficiently. In addition, they are responsible for repairing and maintaining the water distribution and sewer collection pipes and pumping facilities throughout the municipality to ensure water is flowing in and out of homes.
This is a long-term career choice because people need water to survive and it takes a lot of work to get water from natural resources – reservoirs, streams and groundwater – into people’s taps. It is an equally complicated process to convert wastewater that comes from drains and sewers into a form that is safe to release into the environment.
Scholarship
The demand for certified, skilled water/wastewater operators is high due to the retirement of seasoned certified operators everywhere. PeopleService is committed to bringing awareness to the water/wastewater industry as a rewarding and long-term career for individuals who enjoy math, science, technology, and helping protect the environment and community’s health. Therefore, we have established a $3,000 per year scholarship program where these individuals can earn an Associate’s Degree from an accredited college and upon graduation have a job. Candidates interested in applying the for the scholarship can go to PEOPLESERVICE/GrowWithUs.
Our Commitment to the Industry
In addition, we have created a job called Water/Wastewater Industry Ambassador who is charged with bringing awareness to this career – not just for PeopleService but for the industry as a whole. Our Ambassador, Dennis White, recently retired after 40 years in the industry and he is quite passionate about the importance operators play in protecting water resources. If you have students who aren’t quite sure what they want to do after graduation but know they do not want to sit behind a desk all day and they have questions if this is the right career -or- if you have a classroom that is exploring different career opportunities - I invite you to contact Dennis White who can provide a factual hands-on explanation of what “a day in the life of an operator” will be and the growth opportunities available. Dennis’ contact information is: Phone - 815-764-7551 or Email - Dennis.White@peopleservice.com.
