The ACT

The American College Test (ACT) is the most recognized form of college entrance exam for mid-western four-year colleges and universities. The test is offered seven times each year at a variety of locations. ACT now offers a superscore. Many colleges offer scholarships for students with higher ACT scores. Check with your college of interest for more information.

5. ACT/SAT Study Materials to Purchase

Below you will find a link to information about a special offer you and any of your students may use to receive discounted access to an online (or DVD) ACT and/or SAT study guide to help students prepare for the ACT and/or SAT test. This program is offered through the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). Professional athletes and other organizations fund the program. The cost of a standard ACT or SAT study program is usually $350, but through this program, each is available for $20.00, which covers licensing, registration, customer support, shipping, or online access fees.

6. Entrance Exam PREPS Database through the State of Iowa Library, "Brainfuse":

It is set up for a reference for academic, career, and veteran assistance, but it truly does have relevance for high school kids as well. If you go to our webpage www.washington.lib.ia.us and click on digital collection, scroll to the bottom and it will be there. For 9th through 12th it has a section for college students but it does have free tutoring and test prep for ACT and SAT, ASVAB, etc.

WHEN REGISTERING FOR THE TEST:

1. Request a copy of your transcript from the counseling office before you register for the ACT. The ACT registration will ask you the number of terms of English, Science and Math that you have completed.

2. When you register please indicate permission for your test results to be sent to the Washington High School so we may put your scores on your transcript to be used as you need.

3. When you register you must have the Washington High School Code (164475), an electronic picture to download, your Social Security number, credit card/debit card, and the codes of the colleges you are considering (this is searchable on the website).

4. IMPORTANT: AFTER YOU REGISTER, PRINT OUT YOUR TICKET AND KEEP IT TO BRING ON TESTING DAY. THIS TICKET IS YOUR ENTRANCE TICKET TO THE TESTING SITE.

THE DAY OF THE TEST: Bring your ticket and two forms of photo identification and 2 or more #2 pencils (not mechanical). You may also bring a calculator. Check actstudent.org for a list of prohibited calculators. No food or drink will be allowed in the testing rooms.

PreACT
