The Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) establishes minimum qualifications for teacher educators and student teaching supervisors. Faculty, TAs, and instructors teaching in PELSB-approved licensure programs are considered teacher educators. For these reasons, it is important to carefully consider and evaluate the qualifications of all potential teacher educators and student teaching supervisors prior to hiring. The Accountability Analyst and the OTE Director are available to review CVs of potential teacher education hires. To get a sense of the minimum qualifications required for a given position, please reference the Faculty Qualifications Chart (OTE).
Additionally, every teacher educator and student teaching supervisor is required to fill out a survey about their qualifications annually. The first time someone fills out the survey or when their appointment changes, the survey is more time consuming and will take 30-45 minutes. After that, each year the survey just requires a short, five-minute update. With questions, please contact Jamie Utt-Schumacher at uttschu@umn.edu.
