MTH1W (Grade 9 De-streamed Mathematics)

About MTH1W

Starting in September 2021, Ontario high school's grade 9 Math curriculum is updated to the new MTH1W curriculum, which is the de-streamed grade 9 Math course.  This MTH1W course was designed through an anti-oppression lens by placing students of different needs and abilities in the same MTH1W course.  There are many focuses in this MTH1W, but the main ones are to provide students with a smooth transition from elementary school to high school and to help them develop mathematical thinking, making connections, and coding skills.

In MTH1W, the students will first review some fundamental concepts such as integers, fractions, real numbers, and powers.  After that, the students will learn polynomials, linear relations and equations, data analysis, financial literacy, and geometry and measurement.  To further support student learning in this course, the students will have the opportunity to explore the history of Mathematics development by watching a documentary, as well as relate Mathematics with coding in Scratch.
