MPM2D3 (Grade 10 Enriched Mathematics)

About MPM2D3

MPM2D3 was the grade 10 enriched Math course that was last offered to LPCI students in semester 2 of the school year 2022-23.  Mr. Ho was the last teacher teaching this MPM2D3 course, and he used the latest Math pedagogy, "Building Thinking Classrooms," to enhance his student learning in the class.

In MPM2D3, the students first learned how to solve linear systems using the graphical approach and the algebraic approaches (i.e., substitution and elimination methods).  After that, the students learned polynomials, quadratic functions and equations, and trigonometry.  Near the end of the course, the students also learned analytic geometry (e.g., the length of a line segment, midpoints, and properties of some geometric figures).

In addition, every Thursday, Mr. Ho prepared some fun and challenging Math enrichment activities for his students to work on during the class.  The main goal of this type of enrichment activities was to prepare his students for Math contests such as Cayley, Galois, and Canadian Team Mathematics Contests (CTMC) from the University of Waterloo.

The enrichment part of this course consisted of many small group problem-solving activities that involved a lot of social interactions between students and the teacher such as

Game-Based Learning: Sudoku Puzzle Championship

On Friday, May 26th, 2023, the reigning Queen of Sudoku Puzzle at LPCI, Sophie Lehn, was challenged by Calla Schad for the title of the Queen of Sudoku Puzzle.  It was a very intensive and competitive match.  In the end, Sophie successfully defended her title.  Thank you, Ryann Fineberg and Mariam Jikineh, for taking pictures and creating the video clip of this event!
