Editor's Note:
As the head editor and chief of Speechless for 2013-2014, I would like to personally thank the Speechless editing team, Ms. Dixon and her creative writing class, Mr. Cutler and his creative writing class, Mrs. May and her art classes and all of those brave individuals who submitted their works to our humanities journal. These people have worked hard on their craft to produce art I am proud to introduce to Swain County High School and to the world. To each and every one of them, I say this: never stop creating; whether you do so professionally or as a hobby, the rewards are endless.
Having participated in Speechless for four years, I am honored to be the head editor and chief of this last one. I have seen Speechless transition from a book to a website, and, while both have their ups and downs, being online allows for a wider creative sprawl. We can incorporate music, videos and longer short stories, including essays. This archive of Swain High’s creative works has passed from Ms. Gilchrist (the creator), to Mrs. McElroy, and now to Mr. Cutler. I have been under the tutelage of all three of these teachers, and I know they have done their best to make Speechless successful.
As my last week in high school, I now present to you Speechless.
May you be at a loss for words.
