My Nanny sat at the computer.
“O-61” the computer said
In a male voice with a slight accent.
“Do you want the ‘puter?”
She asked me, drunk, blearily staring
At the computer screen as I walked
Back into my guest bedroom.
“No, Nanny; I’m fine.”
Inside the room I turned to close the door,
But she kept talking.
“Are you sure? I’ll gladly give it to you.”
“No, Nanny; I don’t want it.”
“Well, alright. I’m playing bingo;
I’ve won on all three of these squares.”
“Well, that’s good.”
“I guess so. Not as if it matters, anyways-
You don’t win nothin’, ha.”
“Ahmm, yeah, guess so, hm.”
The laugh didn’t come out exactly right.
“Are you sure you don’t want it?
I’ll gladly give it to you.”
A sigh.
“No, Nanny; I’m fine.”
