by Autumn Demonet
Oh, to be lost in your eyes, blue as the ocean,
To swim through the ephemeral night in a dance.
If only this moment could be my forever;
Alas, each sun through the transient mist transforms.
A hand on each hip, I should perish from suspense.
If not tethered, I would float off into the sky.
I am pleasantly chilled under the autumn sky
That unfurls above me, grander than the oceans.
Stars whisper mystery; I tingle from suspense
I reminisce your lips at my neck as we dance.
In this section of eternity, we transform.
Folds in time itself create a new forever—
But what a farce it is, I fear, this forever
I build, like a galleon under the cool night sky.
It sinks as I step in, and suddenly transforms.
I listen to waves that roar on a still ocean,
My logic and affection engage in a dance,
My frail heart trembles at the unfiltered suspense.
I lie paralyzed in bed next to this suspense,
Safe knowing I am near the end of forever.
I am left without enough breath even to dance,
Left to shoulder the grave weight of Atlas’s sky.
Toss me over the plank; leave me to drown in the ocean.
Under tear-salty waves, I meet to transform.
The strange pull of mythology, heroes who transform
Into godlings and gather to construct suspense,
Each cavorting atop fearsome waves on the ocean.
Yet even godlings do not survive forever.
Comforted, I return to the land beneath the sky.
I caress piano keys to compose my own dance.
The beginning consisted of blue eyes, a dance
A permanent blush. Two lives that tangled and transformed
Soft silences and kisses under starlit skies.
Long past are days that do not contain suspense,
Long dead are my hopes of seeing you forever;
That girl has skipped her way over the ocean.
I dance the edge of life enthralled with the suspense,
Endlessly transform my definition of forever
Under a sky the same blue as the ocean.
