Introduction
By: Alex
On a sunny day, you are walking through a meadow and a little white furball hops by. A few seconds later, a brown one follows him. No, the white one was NOT the Easter bunny.
Physical Characteristics
A rabbit’s scientific name is Oryctolagus Cuniculus. This furry mammal can be as small as eight inches long, but some have grown to 4 feet and 3 inches! You might not believe this, but they can see almost the whole way around their head! They can be white, black, grey, brown, or tan. Some are only 1.1 lbs, but others are 6.6 lbs! Some rabbits can jump up to 36 inches high!
Habitat
Rabbits have many habitats, including forest thickets, meadows, and woodland areas. They can be found in burrows on every continent except Antarctica. More than half of all rabbits can be found in North America!
Diet
Rabbits are herbivores, and they eat clovers, grass, and crunchy vegetables. Cottontail rabbits eat about 20 ounces a day, but jackrabbits eat about 6.2 pounds, and are able to run about 45 miles per hour! Rabbits have developed sharp teeth for snapping parts off of plants.
Young
Baby rabbits are born in litters of about 6, and are dark pink before they grow fur. They eat timothy hay, oat hay, and fresh greens.
Conclusion
I think rabbits are interesting. Here are some examples why. 1: They have a small blind spot in front of their nose. 2: They can do simple tricks. 3: They came from North West Africa and South West Europe. My favorite rabbit is brown with floppy ears.
