Physical Characteristics:
Scientists call this shark Cartilaginous. Most people like you and I call it a Great White because of its massive size. The colors of the Great White are Gray, White, and Black they weigh up to 680-1,800 KG. 1,500-4,000 pounds. They also have spiky and rough skin. The classification is Carcharodon Carcharias. The average length of a Great White is usually 12-16 FT. That is about the height of a two story building!!
Habitat:
Great Whites live in the ocean. The best places to see Great White sharks are in South Africa, Southern Australia, California and Guadalupe Mexico. They like to swim in temperate waters. This means that the temperature is usually between 14-24 degrees celsius. Great White sharks prefer areas that have lots of seals and fish.
Diet:
The Great White Shark eats as much as it want to and there jaw bone is very strong which makes it able to bite past bones straight into the fish and seals. The Great White Shark has an amazing sense of smell and it can sense electric charges from prey. The Great White eats about any fish it wants. Its predators are killer whales and dolphins.
Young:
Shark babies are called pups. They are born grey from an egg and their color shifts over time. Once Great White sharks are born they take care of themselves, but sometimes some of the sharks stick with their mother. They are usually 6-8 feet long when they are born. Great White sharks grow inside their mother for 12-18 months before they are born. A mother shark can have two to ten pups at one time. Male sharks are mature at 9 or 10 years old. Female sharks are mature at 14-16 years old. Scientists believe that Great White sharks live thirty years.
