Physical Characteristics
The scientific name for the African elephant's is loxodonta .Some of
there name’s are African forest elephant, African bush elephant, Asiatic elephant, north African elephant and mammal species of earth.There height is 8.2 to 13 feet at shoulder. There weight is 5,000 to 14,000 pounds. It’s skin is really sensitive and also it’s gray and it’s skin is 2.5 to 3 centimeters thick.
Habitat
The African elephant is found in really hot temperatures (in the summer) but In The winter it’s cooler.The African elephant lives in parts of Africa like Angola, Benin,Botswana,Burkina Faso,Cameroon,central African republic,chad,Congo,democratic republic of Congo, cote Ivoire,
and more parts of Africa. The African elephant lives under a shelter.
DietThe African elephant spends 12-18 hours a day feeding. They drink 15 gallons of water a day.The African elephant eats grasses, plants, bushes, fruit, twigs, tree bark and roots.The African elephants predators are lions, crocodiles, leopards and hyenas.
YoungAfrican elephants are born alive.The calf has nursing for 6 years.Calf’s eat mostly everything an adult would but they have to drink its mother's milk.The newborn elephant looks like a regular elephant but smaller.A baby elephant has darker skin than a fully grown elephant.The newborn elephant has no tusks.
