1. Watch this is about a local student who attended the Wildlife Camp sponsored by TU Tulpehocken and the Pennsylvania Game Commission.  Applications for these summer training sessions are available.

3. MacroMania Game : Macroinvertebrates are an important indicator of stream health.  Scientist use surveys of these organisms to track the water quality of streams. 

   You will learn :

  1. The names of aquatic macroinvertebrates

  2. How to conduct a simulated biological assessment of water quality

  3. How to interpret the results  by evaluating land use at the collection sites.

1. Explain the concept of "pollution sensitivity."  How is this related to macro studies?

2. 100 specimens must be collected for the study to be acceptable (EPA). Sort your group and categorize as group 1,2,3.  What water quality do you have at your site?  Calculate the Cummulative Biotic Index

3. What was the land use at your site?

4. How did the land use affect the water quality? 

5. What can be done to improve the water quality?  Use the web to research this.
