Part A : Live Fungi
Learning Target : I can identify Fungi species from live specimens and explain information about the species found through research.
This portion of the lab report is done collaboratively within the lab group.
Explore : Each group will be assigned two slant tubes, representing two different types of Fungi. This will be done on a Google Document:
1. Write out the name of the specimen. Identify this as the Phylum, Genus or Species by web research.
Identify four facts about your specimen from research. Some of these species contaminate food, and some can cause health problems if ingested.
2. DO NOT OPEN the slant tube. Make observations of the sample. You can use a hand lens or a dissection microscope, as well as simple visual inspection.
3. Make three observations and type them .
4. Take a digital image of each specimen with a camera. Take a measurement of the specimen as a whole or of a structural characteristic using a lab ruler. ( mm or cm ) Label the image in a Google Doc.
Explain and Elaborate: Each person in the lab group will present their work.
a. Share the images , just your Doc on the screen or you could make Slides.
b. Tell the class about what you observed and the most important facts.
The groups will also "Share" their work on a common Google Document.
Evaluate : Each Student : Make a Google Form with two quiz questions at the end of your presentation. Share it with Mr. Ulmer as an editor.
Give the Form file a name with your name Lab 4 and something else.
