Create A Pattern

What comes next in this pattern, a kibble or a Milk Bone?

If you answered a kibble, you saw the pattern. Patterns are sequences that repeat in predictable ways.  Mathematicians are always being challenged to find patterns based on a rule.  Patterns can be found in nature, fabric, architecture, and numbers just to name a few examples. Patterns are everywhere!

For this activity, we challenge you to create patterns out of things you have around the house:  Toys, socks, crayons, the list is limited only by your imagination.  Have a family member try to find your pattern and tell you what comes next.

Who doesn't enjoy a pretzel and Cheez It pattern?

You can use markers or crayons to draw patterns.

Can you find the rule for this number pattern?
