Homework for Parents

Dear parents,

It would be extremely helpful and appreciated, if you could complete the following 3-part homework assignment, at your earliest convenience.

Part 1 (e-mail):

Please send me an e-mail introducing yourself and your son or daughter (with your daughter's or son's name as the title), to the following address.

briasco-brina@rsu5.org

It can be short, with nothing more than your name and the name of your son or daughter. It can also be longer, if you would like to share information that you feel would help your daughter or son have a successful experience. Either way, this will open communication between home and school and hopefully invite further communication throughout the year. A written note is also welcomed if necessary.

Part 2 (3-ringed binder):

Please provide for your young mathematician, a 1.5 or 2 inch, 3-ringed binder (no paper needed).

The Polynomials class will not follow a lecture/note taking model. Students will instead be collaborating, engaging in mathematical discourse, and doing mathematics. The 3-ringed binders will be needed to keep any hard copies of their work organized.

The 3-ringed binder is to be used for the math class, and the math class only, preferably with a see-through sleeve in front, to allow an 8.5 in x 11 in sheet of paper to be inserted. This cover insert (or the front cover) should have the words, "I love Math", and your son's or daughter's name on it.

Students are encouraged to decorate the rest of the cover insert (or the front cover) with their own art work and/or images/photos. The idea is to personalize the binder to make it inviting and positive to use, show off artistic talent, and a way for students to demonstrate their commitment to take pride in their work and to try their best in math class. It's also another way for me to get to know your daughter or son better.

The edge of the binder should have the word, "Polynomials", the name of the 7th/8th looping math course, written on it.

Part 3 (ink pens):

Please provide for your young mathematician, a package of assorted colored pens (no pencils).

I look forward to working with you, and making mathematics, both a challenging and positive experience for your son or daughter.
