Artichokes

Artichokes are an experimental vegetable for us. Growing them successfully in Ohio requires a little bit of agricultural 'sleight of hand': you have to convince the plant that they're two years old instead of one. 

  For young Artichokes, I think simple grilling is the best method of preparation, though, I typically give them a quick dip in hot olive oil before cutting them in half and laying them over the hot coals. I season them simply with a little salt, pepper, and maybe a pinch of cayenne.
