Sport/PE

All children require education about healthy food choices and how to live a fit and active life. It's therefore, very important that we regular conversations about healthy eating and to set up daily opportunities to be physically active.

FITNESS

Daily fitness activities are expected to be 10-15 minutes.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION LESSONS

Recommend to have one or more a week for a duration of 40 - 45 minutes per lesson.

KIWISPORT

Our kiwisport programme is delivered by coaches from Regional Sports Organisations e.g. Auckland Cricket, Auckland Football etc. The coach takes the class for 40-45 minute lessons that includes a warm up, 1 or 2 skills-based activities and a game over a period of 4-8 weekly sessions.

* The programme for Terms 2, 3 and 4 will be confirmed later in Term 1.

  • A form of professional development for teachers who are expected to learn the content and delivery from the coaches for their future lessons.

  • The classroom teacher must stay with their class and be engaged throughout the whole lesson.

  • Teachers must assist the coach with managing the student's behaviour and ensure that they are participating in the lessons.

  • Classes must arrive 5 minutes before their lesson so that it can start on time.

  • If it rains, the lessons will be moved to the hall or to another covered area. If the hall has been pre-booked for another event, the session will be cancelled and there's a possibility that it will not be rescheduled to a later date.

  • The sports organisation often leave coaching manuals and resources for all staff to access and use with their classes or sports teams.

SWIMMING

  • All lessons take place at the pool next door, the Glen Innes Aquatics Centre on Elstree Street, Glen Innes which is within walking distance.

  • It's compulsory for all students to participate in swimming lessons unless there's a medical issue.

  • Year 1, 2, 7 & 8 swimming lessons (8 half hour sessions) are funded by the Board of Trustees.

  • The lessons will be delivered by 2 instructors - the classroom teacher and a swim instructor from the Aquatic Centre.

  • Year 3-6 lessons are funded by the GAAAP (Greater Auckland Aquatics Action Plan) programme by Sport Auckland.

  • The lessons are taken by 3 instructors who are in the pool working with 3 ability groups.

  • The instructors record all assessments to be shared with the children and the classroom teacher.

  • Teachers are expected to have the children ready in the right swimwear, to be engaged in the lessons and manage changing room behaviour.

SIDELINE EXPECTATIONS

We have a code of ethics that we expect everyone to abide by. The games are about the children and to support them so that they enjoy their learning journey of how to achieve their personal best and how to be a good team-mate too. All adults are expected to be positive towards our teams and their opposition.

HOUSE CAPTAINS

They will be in charge of organising and running inter-class and inter-house competitions.

SPORTS COMMITTEE

The committee is made up of parents and teachers to support and oversee our school sports programme.
